Day 210 August 5 bottle hurricane lamp

I found this old bottle out in the woods and I cut off the bottom.  I used a bottle cutter and some very helpful instructions on u-tube and I got a pretty clean cut.  It just sits on this base I found at Salvation Army and looks great.  I am going to make a bunch of these for my sons wedding out of wine bottles.  They will look great on the porch during the reception.  I am going to have someone slice a log up for the bases.  Pretty cool.

  1. Don't you think the bottle might heat up and crack?

  2. Actually I used these at my sons wedding and the candles burned down and the bottles didnt crack. The top was very hot to the touch but they burned for hours.

  3. I tried this but couldn't ever get a clean cut. What kind of bottle cutter did you use?

  4. I used a simple bottle cutter that scores the glass. The secret is to just score it once. Then pour hot hot water on the score. Then run cold cold water over it. A lot of times the bottom just falls off so be sure to have a cushion in the sink or wherever you do it.
