Day 293 October 27 garden tool hook

I don't know about you but I am always forgetting my reusable grocery bags.  I needed a hook to hang them where I would see them.  I cleaned up this old garden tool and screwed it into the wall.  Very useful and cool..

Day 292 October 26 map dresser

I have had this dresser since I was a little girl so it was pretty rough.  I took maps from old National Geographics and decoupaged them on it.  Now it is cool.

Day 291 October 25 bottle cap tacks

The bottle caps are lined with decorative paper and filled with resin.  Then I glued a tack to the back with strong glue and now I have tacks for my wine cork board.

Day 290 October 24 cassette case stand

From outdated to new and modern.  I used this old cassette case to hold my i-pod.  I painted some chalk board paint on it for a little flair.  It could be used for your slim phone too.

Day 289 October 23 cigar box ring case

This is marvelous.  I folded a felted sweater and glued it inside a cigar box.  What a great way to store or display rings.  And it is all recycled.

Day 288 October 22 dice birdhouse garland

This little garland was made with playing dice and cardboard and glue and paint.  They would look cute on a cord for a necklace too.

Day 287 October 21 dinosaur pencil holder

My desk is rockin' with this new addition.  I painted a toy dinosaur all one color and cut a hole in the top for my pencils and pens.  He is ferociously cute.

Day 284 October 18 secret stash book

The outside of this book looks like a regular book.  But when you open it up a secret compartment is revealed.  I used a jigsaw to cut the through the pages and them applied a sealer around the inside.  Just don't forget what book you put the stash in.

Monday, October 17, 2011

Day 283 October 17 milkweed poinsetta

I glued some milkweed pods together and then painted them a soft pink.  Red would look great but all I had was pink.  Then I added some  beads in the centers and stems.  The piece of birch bark makes a great looking vase.

Day 282 October 16 maple leaf roses

A rose is a rose is a rose.. unless it's a maple leaf.  With a little folding I turned some beautiful fall leaves into some beautiful roses.   I don't know how long they will last but even a real rose doesn't last forever.

Day 281 October 15 glow in the dark jar

If you break open a glow stick you get a little glass vial with the liquid glow.  I poured that into a jar and now it glows.  The stuff is non-toxic but be careful with the glass vial.  These glowing jars will make great Halloween decorations instead of candles.

Day 280 October 14 owl banner

WHOOO doesn't like owls?  These little guys are made with scrap material and buttons for eyes.  Nice.

Day 278 October 12 dryer lint fire starters

These aren't pretty but they work great. I saved the lint from the dryer and put it in cupcake wraps.  Then I poured melted wax from broken candles over it and let it cool.  When I put in in the wood stove and light it I get a good long lasting flame to get that sometimes damp wood started.

Day 277 October 11 shotgun sushi pendants

In my walks by the pond near my house I often find used shotgun shells.  I thought the brass base would make a nice base for some t-shirt sushi pendants.  What do you think?

Monday, October 10, 2011

Day 276 October 10 waxed pine cones

I have pine trees so I have pine cones.  I dipped these in some wax from some broken old candles.  They are very pretty and I think they make good fire starters.  I do have a wood stove and they may be used for that.

I used five of somebodies grandmothers doilies for this lamp.  I soaked them in a paste mixture and applied them to a blown up balloon.  When it was dry I popped the balloon and put a string of lights inside.  It is very pretty.  I wanted to make it hanging but I didn't have the right kind of light fixture.

Day 273 October 7 troll vase

This troll lost it's hair making it perfect for this project.  I painted it with a metallic paint and added some of my kusidama flowers.  Is it cute or creepy?

Day 272 October 6 spider web t-shirt

Halloween is getting closer and this t-shirt redo is perfect.  I took an old t-shirt and cut out the web pattern on the back.  Now when Dana wears it over another t-shirt it looks so spooky and creepy.

Day 271 October 5 water bottle gift containers

These are water bottles cut down and taped on the top to make a smoother edge.  I added some decorative paper inside and punched holes for handles.  You could write on the paper before being inserted in the bottle. Just fill with candy or a small gift or a trick or treat.

Day 270 October 4 cereal box beads

This is so easy and yet the results are so cool.  Because the material is cardboard these are fairly large beads.

Monday, October 3, 2011

Day 269 October 3 acorn t-shirt sushi

I rolled t-shirt material and glued it into acorn shells.  It looks like sushi to me.  I am going to glue loops onto these and use them as pendants or beads.  I love the colors and textures.

Day 268 October 2 screen leaves

It's fall in northern Michigan and the leaves are falling.  These leaves are made from screening and puffy paint.  Just draw out the leaf design and cut out.

Day 267 October 1 tin roof birdhouse

I really love"picnik" photo editing and when I have a photo that is really kind of boring I like to spice it up.  This is a premade birdhouse that I put a new roof on.  I used circles of drink cans for shingles.  Then I put some wire that I spiraled on the top for pictures or cards.  I glued some can parts to the bottom to add a little more color too.
