Day 205 July 31 tomato cage garden art

I had a hard time photographing this so you could see how cool it is.  I painted an old tomato cage black and then using wire I wove dream catchers.  I bent the bottom wires so it will stand up and finally added some feathers.  I think this will look great in the garden or on the patio.

Day 203 July 29 bread clip bag clip

If you look around your kitchen you will probably find a lot of these plastic bread clips.  I glued a strip of velum paper printed with my niece Comilla's artwork and now they make great bag clips for party favors.

Day 202 July 28 driftwood hanger

You could take any piece of wood or stick and make it into a hanger.  I used driftwood that I painted and stenciled and drilled a hole for the wire.  It will make a great display hanger for clothes or jewelry or scarves.

Day 201 July 27 t-shirt dress

I made this sun dress out completely out of t-shirts.  One section of the skirt has my nieces face block printed onto it.  I made her some banners for her graduation and used the cartoon face she drew.

Day 200 July 26 fast food toys card holder

This would be great at a baby shower or birthday party.  Everyone has a few of those kids meal toys around.  I glued a folded piece of plastic to each one so it can hold a name or business card or picture or whatever.  Thanks Myrna for the plastic pieces cut from the bottom of your new blinds.

Day 199 July 25 bottle cap flower

Another use for bottle caps.  Bend them into petal shapes and glue onto a can lid. Then glue on a stem and stick into your garden.  No one will know they are not real.  Really.

Day 198 July 24 blinds bird

Today my sister-in-law Jan showed me how to make this bird out of old Venetian blinds.  It looks really cool hanging.

Day 197 July 23 aluminum can candle holder

/This is another way to make something cool out of something you would probably throw away.  Just cutting and curling to make this.

Day 196 July 22 tire tube bracelet

Flat tires are to be expected when you ride a bike, so what do you do with the tubes?  I cut this one with a pinking scissors into one long strip and made it into a bracelet by winding it around my wrist.

Day 195 July 21 window doily

Do you have lots of couch doilies but not enough couches?  I stitched this one to a metal circle and put it in the window.  Now it is a window doily.

Day 193 July 19 oven rack gate

I needed to keep the dogs on the porch with a gate so I took two discarded oven racks,  painted them and then attached them to the side rails with O hooks and wire loops.  It work great for my dogs because they don't try to get through it - because they could if they really tried.  See how Mattie just stops, and it looks great..

Day 192 July 18 cork vase magnet

For this cute little refrigerator magnet I hollowed out a wine cork, added a little copper tape trim and glued on a magnet.  It is just right for sprigs of lavender. And it doesn't have to be the refrigerator that you attach  it to.

Day 191 July 17 paper bowls

Nothing but paper was used to make these bowls.  I used an old calender with pretty bird pictures.

Day 190 July 16 lavender wands

Life is good when you can make something for nothing and it smells so g-o-o-o-o-d!  These wands truly are magic.

Day 189 July 15 twinkle mobile

I found these little twinkle star jello molds and I think they make a great mobile.

Day 188 July 14 simple screen

Who said screens had to be ugly?  The screen on this door ripped so I replaced it with a pretty sheer and duct tape.  I don't need a view of the road so it works for me.

Day 187 July 13 handlebar poms

Even a big girl like me likes to make her bike cute and cool and sparkly.  These handlebar pom poms are made from a potato chip bag.

Day 186 July 12 furoshiki

Furoshiki is a Japanese wrapping cloth.  It can be used to carry things, decorate packages or protect things or even clothing.  There are many cool ways to use it and I would encourage you to google it to find charts with different wrapping techniques.  In that tradition I used a pretty dish cloth and wrapped a kleenex box.  Isn't it pretty?

Day 185 July 11 curtain ring frames

These are some large curtain rings and I simply glued a stamped paper to the back.  These could be used to decorate a package or a plant or just hung on the wall.

Day 184 July 10 garden balls

These light fixture globes are plentiful at the thrift stores.  I took a couple of them and dripped glass stain inside then perched them on painted tin cans.  Adds a little dazzle to my neglected garden.

Day 183 July 9 light fixture votive

This was made to be made into a hanging votive.  The screw holes are perfect to string a beaded cord through and the shape and texture are perfect for putting a lighted candle into.  I love this hanging from the tree on the deck.  This would probably have made a great planter too but I really like how the candle glows in it.

half way there

Today marks the start of the second half of my 365 day challenge. Wow.  Thank you all for all your support.  Every time I think  "what am I going to do next?"  I seem to find more projects to try.  It is a fun adventure and challenge!

Day 182 July 8 balloon vase

This is perfect for just one pretty flower.  It is made by taking the top off a balloon and stretching it around a small votive. So simple yet it could really make an impact on a table.

Day 181 July 7 album cover box

I drilled holes on old album covers then lashed them together.  Pretty groovy box.

Day 180 July 6 necktie neck piece

This is made with half a necktie and a lot of buttons.  It is a very cool and interresting collar type neck piece. I have it buttoned at the back.

Day 179 July 5 denim leaf headband

More denim!  I used different denims and made leaf shapes then put them together in a headband.

Monday, July 4, 2011

Day 178 July 4 patriotic bunting

I used the scrap vinyl that was given to me and cut it in strips and made a fringe bunting for the 4th of July.  This would look nice around a picnic table if I had one.  I like it on the fence.

Sunday, July 3, 2011

Day 178 July 3 ice necklace

I know this looks a little Wilma Flintstone but it is actually really cool. I wrapped re-freezable ice cubes in cloth and then made them into a necklace.  I put the whole thing in a plastic bag in the freezer and when I put it on it really feels cool and refreshing.

Day 177 July 2 herb dryer

This is art meets function!  I took two picture frames without glass and put in screening.  I made a hinge on the bottom with duct tape and added cut up corks on the back so when it hangs in your window it won't scratch it and the air will flow around the herbs better.  It looks awesome in the window and the herbs drying smell great.  I really love it!

Day 176 July 1 scrubby cozy

So simple yet so pretty.  It is just a scrubby from the dollar store that I unrolled and slipped on a plain jar.  One package will cover several jars so how inexpensive is that for party decor. They come in gold too.
